Module 3 Jumanji

**Book summary
Brother and sister, Peter and Judy, were asked to keep the house clean since mother and father would be returning home with friends. They took all of their toys out and scattered them on the living room floor and soon were bored. They went outside to play and bored of that also. They stumbled on a game with a note saying to read the instructions all the way through. They took the game home opened it and it looked just like any other board game they had, until Peter rolled the dice. A lion appeared behind him chasing him into his bedroom, then some monkeys in the kitchen, a python on the mantle, a monsoon rain storm,a guide that is lost, and rhinos running through the living room. Peter was bit by a tsetse fly and fell asleep.  They quickly finished the game, and all returned to normal. They quickly returned the game and about that time their parents and guest arrived. One of the guest mentioned that their sons never read instructions, and Peter and Judy were busy looking outside to see her sons taking the game and heading home.

**Impression:I really liked this book. I remember seeing the movie however, it was nice to read it again. The story has a nice flow and the drawing are wonderful. The pictures are drawn so that you feel like you are there. The drawing are very detailed and done in shades of blacks and whites.  The wording is not to big so beginner readers can feel like they are reading a "grown up" book and advanced readers will enjoin the story and really won't notice there no big words.

**Professional Review:

Jumanji (Jumanji #1)

The game under the tree looked like a hundred others Peters and Judy had at home. But they were bored and restless and, looking for something interesting to do, thought they'd give Jumanji a try. Little did they know when they unfolded its ordinary-looking playing board that they were about to be plunged into the most exciting and bizare adventure of their lives.
In his second book for children, Chris Van Allsburg again explores the ever-shifting line between fantasy and reality with this story about a game that comes startingly to life.
His marvelous drawings beautifully convey a mix of the everyday and the extraordinary, as a quiet house is taken over by an exotic jungle.
